No, it was a great run... unfortunetly it ends with the words- St. Louis Cardinals are World Series Champions. Am I disapointed and heartbroken? Of course. But the thing about baseball is that there is always next season and this year, after 13 long painful losing seasons, the Detroit Tigers finally proved that they can play with the big boys. It was a wonderful experiance, finally having my team win.
Took a trip to IKEA on Wednesday to get Kim a bed. Kim did not find a bed. I however did find what I was looking. I got a bedside table, a cute little kitchen table and two new additions to the family- Hubert and Lillian. You can see them in the picture with Mazy. They are my first ever house plants since moving out of my parents house. Hubert is the aloe vera plant and Lillian is the other one that I don't really know what it is, but I think it is cute.
Tesseract decided to crawl in the bag that one of my pieces of furniture came in. There hasn't been any pictures of Mazy or Tesseract in a while. Terrible.
One would think that now that I have the internet back at my house that I would post at least as frequently as I used to. Apparently not. I guess I've been too busy.
In five months tomorrow, I will be in Mexico for Mission Mexico. That is unbelievably exciting and I can't wait. It's good to finally know what projects we will be doing and to have gotten a look at the Children's Home. For those of you who don't know what we are doing when we go there, ie my family and friends not from church, go here to see a video.
World Series 2006- Tigers vs. Cardinals is well under way. The series is tied 1-1. The Cards took the first game but the Tigers evened it out last night. Game 3 is Tuesday in St. Louis. It's very exciting.
Anyways, I have to get back to cleaning in preparation for the arrival of a long lost relative from a far away unknown dimension.
...a baseball landed in the stands in left field of Comerica Park. Not really that unlikely of an event... until you stop to consider what this simple event means...
the DETROITTIGERS are going to the WORLDSERIES
Exactly 22 years ago, they were also celebrating in Detroit. For that was when the Tigers won it all. October 14, 1984. I was a meer 10 months and 8 days old. I don't remember it. I remember today. It's a beautiful thing!!!!
It's a beautiful thing when good triumphs over evil. So last night when the Beloved Detroit Tigers beat the Evil Empire to eliminate them from the playoffs, it was a beautiful thing. The Tigers didn't just beat the Yankees though, they distroyed them. Yankee starter Jaret Wright, known for his choking ability, didn't even get out of the third inning, while Tigers starter Jeremy Bonderman was perfect through 5. The Yankee loving announcers from FOX continually went on about how great a Yankee team this is, quite possibly the best offensive team ever constructed in the history of baseball, but the fact of the matter is great pitching will shut down great hitting any day and in the end the Evil Empire was beaten by the team who has the best pitching staff in all of baseball this year. I have never known that much joy from the world of baseball. So this is what it's like to have your team win.
The Tigers first playoff game is tonight. Too bad I'm working. It better last until at least Game 4 or else I wont get to see a single game from the first round. I mean it would be best if the beloved Tigers finished off the hated Yankees in 3 games. But I would like to see a game. Too bad I'm in charge of Street Ministry this Friday or else I would be skipping out. But then that's probably a good thing. I can just see it now... "Dear God, today instead of going to help homeless people I have decided to stay home and watch the team that by your grace alone has finally made it to the post season." But obviously Tiger fans have been doing something right this year to diserve this.
